Coatings

Applying a specialized coating is the best way to prevent and treat corrosion. Depending on the structure to be protected, different treatments are possible, each with their specific advantages.

Here is a brief description of the coatings generally used by Yvon Couture Inc.

 

Sprayed elastomeric coating

Urethane, polyurethane and polyurea

  • Up to an elongation of 800%
  • High abrasion resistance (ASTM Taber CS-17 < 1 mg)
  • Resistance to thermal cycling and cracks
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • Cured within 15 seconds (thus reducing shutdown time)
  • Thickness of 20 to 250 μin in the chest and up to ½" on the roller


Use:

  • Structures, steel storage tanks, concrete chests, steel and cast iron piping
  • Waterproofing of concrete structures, tunnels, dams, floors, etc.
  • Primary containment and secondary treatment basins
  • Retention basins on geotextile membrane
  • Paper machines, pulp presses
  • Drinking water towers (NSF–FDA)
  • Drinking water tanks
  • Water treatment equipment, clarifiers
  • Encapsulation
  • Equipment, chutes, cyclones, vibratory screens, pumps, rollers, etc.
 

Matrix material coating

Epoxy, novalac, vinyl ester, phenolic, polyester, Siloxirane®

(with fiber or ceramic reinforcement)
  • Sprayed or trowel-applied
  • Protection against chemical attacks
  • Good resistance to abrasion
  • FDA and NSF certified


Use:

  • Interior of storage tanks
  • Reactors and cooling towers
  • Chemical containment basins (sulphuric acid 98%)
  • Scrubber systems
  • Steel and cast iron piping
  • Flooring finish
 

Annealed phenolic coating

  • High resistance to chemicals: acids, solvents, salts
  • Resistance to high temperatures up to 400°F


Use:

  • Storage tanks
  • Tank trucks
 

Copolymerized silicone coating

  • Chemical resistance up to 600°F
  • Installation on in-service equipment


Use:

  • Refinery equipment
  • Furnaces
  • Heat exchangers
  • Incinerators
 

Antistick coating

  • Hydrophobic and antistick properties
  • Facilitates cleaning of coated surfaces


Use:

  • Transfer troughs
  • Glue tanks
  • Deicing
 

Fluoroelastomer coating

  • 100% Viton® fluoroelastomer
  • Chemical resistance from –40°F to 400°F
  • Elongation of 400% (thermal shock)


Use:

  • Chemical containment basins
  • Interior of storage tanks
 

Metallic coating

Zinc, zinc-aluminum, aluminum

  • Cathodic protection
  • Anti-corrosion protection


Use:

  • Anchors and reinforcing bars for machine bases
  • Chests
  • Metal and concrete structures
  • Steel structures
 

Rubberized coating

Premier Rubber Membrane®

  • Modified asphalt elastomer
  • Can be used on wet or poorly prepared surfaces
  • Lloyds Register Certificate No. MATS/3780/1.


Use:

  • Interior of tanks (ballast tanks)
  • Waterproofing of concrete tanks
  • Retention basins on geotextile membrane
  • Steel and gravel roofs
